The Oxford Award 2008

In 2007 Oxford University Press Southern Africa launched The Oxford Award - recognizing successful essay writing. The response to this competition, which was open to learners in Grades 11 and 12 whose home language is not English, was overwhelming. As a result, OUPSA has decided to hold this competition annually.

All learners need to do is write a carefully crafted essay, 350 - 400 words for
Grade 11 and 400 - 450 words for Grade 12, on one of the following topics:

  • Climate change
  • Cash, cars and cell phones
  • I will do it my way
  • Biting back - dealing with crime
  • My ideal dinner guest
  • President for a day.
The prizes that can be won are fantastic! They include Apple Macbooks, desktop computers, Apple iPod Classics, digital cameras, books, Levi clothing hampers and cash. Each of the prize winning schools will receive a Dell desktop computer and a hamper of reference books.

Remember, only learners who do not have English as their mother tongue may enter. To make it easy to enter, download the official entry form by clicking on the link below. The winners will be announced during September 2008.
