Marianne, a young girl from Grimsby, sets out to find her father after her mother dies. With a few coins, she leaves her home to travel to Denmark where she believes her father lives. Once she is there, Marianne has many trials that she must overcome including the terrible stench of old fish that surrounds the small town. However, she is stuck living in this town since she has no money to leave. Is this how she imagined it to be? How will she survive and find her dad if she can’t even speak the language?
This heart warming story was very enjoyable and had some unexpected twists and turns. I really love reading books by this author. She writes very well and keeps you captivated. However, her stories all seem to have the same basic outline, which can make them predictable.
This book is suitable for teenage girls.
