This is a tale of a beautiful, young girl, Thora, who escapes with a slave for a new, safer life in Iceland. The journey is dangerous and they arrive just before winter so there is little food for them. They have many hardships living in this new place. Is this land really as promising as her visions foresaw or have they failed her?

I enjoyed this story very much, however, I felt that her other books (The Lady in the Tower and Between Two Seas) were more easy to relate to. I was unable to put the book down though, and liked the fast paced action that was full of surprises.
