Toby is part of an organization called HERO.COM. This organization has a rival organization called VILLIAN.NET. Both organizations have a system where you can download powers.
The story begins where Toby, Emily and another of Toby’s friends go on a mission that goes terribly wrong. It went wrong in the sense that Emily went missing and they couldn’t find her. This does not make Toby feel any better as his best friend was lying in hospital, in a coma. Pete and the rest of the Hero foundation fought in the Mongolian desert to save their headquarters. They managed to kill the bad guys but not the foundation. They ended up destroying the headquarters.
During the fight Pete had been dunked in raw superpowers and had the power to beat the enemy but then passed out and went into a coma. It ended up where Pete woke up and started to work for Lord Eon. Lord Eon was picking people out of time and feeding on their chronons. Emily was a person that Lord Eon had stolen out of time. Later he started eating bigger cities and later planned to eat the whole world. Long ago the foundation had made a weapon that had beat Lord Eon but he’d managed to escape and the pieces of the temporal dilator were scattered across the world. Toby was in the race to find the pieces and defeat Lord Eon. He eventually found the pieces and put them together just in time to save the world.
I enjoyed this book. I think that this was quite complicated and would suit quite well with boys about 12-15 years old. And I think it was quite a “boyish” book.
