Winners of the 2008 SEFIKA AWARD for Academic Publisher of the Year

Oxford University Press SA has won the Sefika award for BEST ACADEMIC PUBLISHER for 2008.
Voted for by the booksellers in recognition of excellence in product quality and high service levels within the publishing arena, Oxford were presented with their award at this year’s PASA/SABA Conference dinner which was held on Tuesday 19 August at The Vineyard Hotel and Spa in Cape Town.
The award was handed out by Nielsen Book’s Sales Director, Simon Skinner.
The criteria used by the booksellers in the selection process include the following:
- Levels of customer service
- Quality and relevance of publications to the local market
- Promotional activities to push sales
- Level of communication between sales teams and
booksellers.
In addition, the booksellers also made an assessment of each Publisher's commitment towards growth within the South African publishing landscape.
According to the booksellers, OUP SA won the reward this year for the following reasons:
- Excellent turn-around times for book delivery
- Good Customer service response and prompt feedback on orders and status of orders
- First-class product
- Superior relationships and communication from the sales team on adoptions and enrollment figures.
This is not the first time Oxford University Press have won this award, this is the 2nd time OUP have been nominated the best academic publishers in recognition of outstanding contribution to the industry. The previous award was presented in 2006.
