Sunday Times Literary Awards 2010 - OUP title shortlisted!

We are proud to announce that top selling Oxford University Press title The Strange Alchemy of Life and Law (Albie Sachs) has been shortlisted for the prestigious Alan Paton Award for 2010.

This announcement was made on Thursday evening (3 June 2010) at the Sunday Times Literary Awards evening in Johannesburg.

Submission criteria for the award:
  • Any full-length non-fiction work relating to Southern Africa and published between December 1 2008 and December 1, 2009 and written by a South African citizen – at home or abroad – or someone who has been resident in South Africa for more than three years is eligible for the prize.
  • The work must be written in English and must not be self-published.
  • The criteria set for the work are: The illumination of truthfulness, especially those forms of it that are new, delicate, unfashionable and fly in the face of power; compassion; elegance of writing; and intellectual and moral integrity.
The judges for this year’s Alan Paton Award are Ari Sitas, Maureen Isaacson, Heidi Holland, Thengani Ngwenya and Joe Matthews. The prize is valued at R75 000.
