Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant joins in celebrations to commemorate World Teacher’s Day

World Teacher’s Day, celebrated annually on 5 October, saw teachers around the world commended for the central role they play in guiding children, youths and adults through the life-long learning process.

Oxford University Press SA, in partnership with the Western Cape Education Department and ABC Press, joined Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant to hand over a specially compiled book, Thank you Teacher, to teachers at Vuzamanzi Primary School in Khayelitsha. The book, a compilation of messages from learners to their teachers, will be widely distributed to teachers across the Western Cape. Vuzamanzi was specifically chosen as the venue for the handover to celebrate the school’s accomplishment in substantially raising the literacy levels of learners over the last few years.

“In South Africa, quality teachers are not recognised often enough for their outstanding efforts to provide a quality education for all our learners. This book creatively acknowledges that these efforts have not gone unnoticed by some of their fiercest critics – the learners themselves”, noted MEC Grant.
