Permanent vacancy: Senior Editor, Schools

This position involves project managing, editing and proofreading mainly literature titles in English for the school market.  This includes taking responsibility for developing and improving the material to ensure its appropriateness and alignment with curriculum requirements, the quality of the edit, liaison with authors, designers, typesetters and freelancers, and working within deadlines and budget according to editorial and production processes. 

 

You will:

  • ·         possess outstanding conceptual, organisational and language skills

  • ·         be highly organised, efficient and meticulous

  • ·         communicate competently and professionally with people at all levels

  • ·         demonstrate strong initiative, enthusiasm and creative flair

  • ·         be willing to assume responsibility and work independently

  • ·         cope with deadlines and work well under pressure.

 

Requirements:

  • ·         an appropriate tertiary level qualification

  • ·         a minimum of 2 years’ experience in book editing and project management

  • ·         mother-tongue-equivalent English language skills

  • ·         a thorough knowledge of editorial and production processes.

 

Recommended:

  • ·         teaching experience

  • ·         familiarity with the school curriculum and education system in South Africa

  • ·         up-to-date with digital trends in publishing

  • ·         driver’s licence and willingness to undertake occasional travel.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. We offer participation in pension and medical aid schemes, and 20 working days’ leave a year.
